Field Hockey Blanks Rivier in 1-0 Win

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State field hockey team got in the win column with a 1-0 win over Rivier in non-conference play Tuesday evening in Framingham.   

THE BASICS: 

Score: Framingham State 1, Rivier 0  

Records: Framingham State (1-2), Rivier (1-2) 

Location: Maple Street Field Framingham, Mass. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • After a scoreless first period the Rams opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Ashley Malmquist sent in a cross from Natalia Roehr to put the Rams ahead 1-0.  

  • Another scoreless third quarter the Raiders looked to have scored with about 11 minutes to go but the goal was waved off for hitting an offensive player's leg.  

  • The Raiders had a few looks in the final moments but couldn't find the tally to even up the score.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

Framingham State's goalie Rowan Whittaker made three saves in the shutout while Kylie Coupal made five saves in goal for the Raiders.  

The Rams outshot the visitors 20-to-13 in the contest and were awarded 16 penalty corners to the Rivier eight.  

UP NEXT: 

The Rams return to action on Friday, September 20thwhen they open MASCAC play at Fitchburg State. The Raiders will host Albertus Magnus on Saturday at 1pm.
