19 Rams Named to 2009 Fall MASCAC All-Academic Team

Buzzards Bay, Mass. - Over 400 student-athletes, including 19 student-athletes from Framingham State College, have been honored by the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference with selection to the league's Fall 2009 All-Academic Team that was announced by MASCAC Commissioner Angela Baumann.

Field hockey and women's soccer led the way with six student-athletes honored apiece, while football placed four, volleyball placed two and men's soccer had one honoree. 

Honorees from the 2009 field hockey team include senior Katie Wotherspoon (Biology), who has been honored in each of her four seasons, juniors Kristen Sacco (Art Education) and Kira Terrill (Psychology), sophomores Kayleigh Force (Food and Nutrition) and Kristen Gentili (Food and Nutrition), and freshman Sarah Ryan (Elementary Education).  Gentili, Sacco and Wotherspoon were also selected to the 2009 Fall Little East Conference (LEC) All-Academic Team.

Senior captains Kellen Dougherty (Fashion Design and Merchandising) and Katie Jeffery (Psychology), sophomore Taylor Benton (Fashion Design), and freshmen Kristen Espinola (Early Childhood Education), Kara Herbert (Fashion Merchandising) and Jillian Waters (Early Childhood Education) were honored from the women's soccer team.

Junior Travis Wright (Corporate Communications) and senior Keith Costello (Business Administration), who were also selected to the 2009 New England Football All-Academic team, were honored along with senior Dan Antinarella (Sociology) junior Anthony Pappagallo (Communications) from the football squad.

Also recognized were from men's soccer junior Brunno Goncalves (Communications) and from volleyball juniors Nicole Donofrio (Elementary Education) and Ashley Trudeau (Early Childhood Education).

Student-athletes that compete in championship varsity sports offered by each of the eight MASCAC institutions during the Fall 2009 semester and have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average during that semester are eligible for selection to the Fall All-Academic Team.

In its 39th year of existence, the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference is comprised of eight NCAA Division III member institutions: Bridgewater State College, Fitchburg State College, Framingham State College, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State College, Westfield State College and Worcester State College. Two other NCAA Division III member schools, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men's ice hockey.
