Football Scores Pair of Second Half Touchdowns to Defeat Westfield State 21-7

Westfield, Mass. - The Framingham State University football team scored the game's final three touchdowns to erase a 7-0 deficit and secure a 21-7 victory over Westfield State  in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Alumni Field. 

THE BASICS:

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams accumulated 219 yards in the game including 169 through the air, while the Owls amasses 274 yards but were held to just 66 yards passing by the Rams defense. 

  • Luke Thompson completed 11-of-27 passes for 169 yards with a touchdown and a pick in the game. 

  • Jaheim Daniels rushed for 52 yards on seven carries with a score, while EJ Nichols made eight catches for 90 yards with a touchdown. 

  • Ronyel Pena paced the defense with 17 tackles including nine solo with four for a loss, a sack, a forced fumble and a pass breakup. 

  • Korrey Barron finished the game with nine tackles, while Carl Renaudin added five and a fumble returned 11 yards and an interception. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • After a scoreless first quarter, the Owls got on the board first with a touchdown pass with just over eight minutes to play in the second quarter. 

  • The Rams answered with a score when Renaudin returned a fumble 11 yards for a score. After Matthew Farley's extra point the game was tied 7-7 at the half. 

  • The Rams grabbed the lead for good on a 25 yard pass from Thompson to Nichols with just over five to play in the third. 

  • The Rams added a final touchdown on a two yard run from Daniels in the final minute to reach the final score.
