Football Defeated 32-13 by Castleton in Home Opener

Framingham, Mass. - The Framingham State University football team trailed by three heading to the fourth quarter, but Vermont State-Castleton tallied a pair of touchdowns in the frame to secure a 32-13 victory over the Rams in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opener for both school at Bowditch Field.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams compiled 260 yards of offense in the game including 165 yards passing, while the Spartans totaled 334 yards of offense including 211 through the air.   

  • Treyvon Field completed 12-of-21 pass attempts for 124yards with two touchdowns and an interception, while Donovan Cole completed 3-of-4 for 41 yards. 

  • Joshua Ramos rushed for 63 yards on 11 attempts, Makoto Uchikawa rushed for 27 yards on three carries and averaged nine yards a touch. 

  • EJ Nichols paced the Rams receivers with seven catches for 117 yards with a pair of touchdowns. 

  • John Burke paced the Rams defense with eight tackles, all solo, including two for a loss and a pass breakup. 

  • Nick Quintina also finished the game with five tackles, four solo, two sacks and a pass breakup. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Rams got on the board first when Field hit Nichols for a 25-yard touchdown capping a six play drive midway three the first quarter. The extra point was blocked and returned by the Spartans putting the Rams up 6-2. 

  • The Spartans answered with a pair of touchdown passes from Wes Cournoyer to Caezar Williams to lead 16-6 at the half. 

  • The Rams closed the gap to three in the opening minutes of the second half when Fields and Nichols connected once again. This one was a 29-yard touchdown reception making the score 16-13. 

  • A 30-yard field late in the third quarter pushed the Spartans advantage to six and they added a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to reach the final margin.

The Rams are back in action next Friday night when they travel to UMass Dartmouth at 7 p.m.
