Baseball Falls to Nichols 7-6 in Extra Innings

Dudley, Mass.  - The Framingham State University baseball team rallied for three runs in the top of the eighth and ninth to tie the game, but the Rams were defeated 7-6 by Nichols in 10 innings this afternoon in non-conference action at tat the Nichols Baseball Field. 

THE BASICS: 

-Scores:  Nichols 7, Framingham State 6 (10 Innings) 

-Records: Framingham State (1-12), Nichols (6-6) 

- Location: Nichols Baseball Field Dudley, Mass.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Bison jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two runs in the first and two more in the third. 

  • The Rams got on the board in the top of the fourth on a double play ball with the bases loaded, but the Bison plated a run in the bottom of the inning to lead 5-1. 

  • The Rams closed the gap to 5-3 in the fifth on an RBI single from Dane Frellick and when Johnny Lynch reached on an error scoring the second run. The Bison added a single run in the bottom of the inning and led 6-3. 

  • The Rams rallied for a run in the top of the eighth on an RBI single from JC Espinal closing the gap to 6-4. 

  • The Rams added two in the top of the ninth tying the game at 6-6.  Rosco Palmer plated the first run with a single up the middle and Massimo Mondi followed with an RBI single to left. 

  • The Rams did not score in the top of the tenth and the Bison received a home run in the bottom of the inning to secure the victory. 

  • Mondi finished the game 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, while Daniel Robichaud and Frellick each went 2-for-5 in the game. 

  • Nicholas Kutcher started the game for the Rams and did not factor in the decision, going 4.1 innings allowing six earned runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts.  Keith Ramsey took the loss for the Rams going five innings, allowing one earned run on six hits.

The Rams are back in action on Friday when they travel to Bridgewater State at 3 p.m.
