17 Rams Named to Winter 2014-15 MASCAC All-Academic Team

Westfield, Mass. — A total of 373 student-athletes, including 17 from Framingham State University, have been honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) with selection to the league’s Winter 2014-15 All-Academic Team as announced earlier today by MASCAC Commissioner Angela Baumann.

Ice hockey leads the way with nine selections and men’s basketball follows with six honorees, while the women’s basketball team had a pair of student-athletes recognized with selection the winter all-academic team.

Honorees from the ice hockey team include Senior Jay Nicholls (Business Administration), juniors Cameron Hoffman (Management), Melvin Nichols (Finance) and Sean Parker (Economics), sophomores Cam Coburn (Business & Information Technology), Vaughn Guetens (Accounting), and Alessio Muggli (Business Administration) and freshmen Jordan Fontaine (Management) and Dylan Knox (Political Science).

Student-athletes from the men’s basketball team include junior Joe McCabe (Criminology) and Tim McCarthy (Sociology), sophomores Matt Diver (Business Administration), Daniel Gould (History), Patrick Gould (History) and freshman Ben Roache (Management).  Sophomore Alycia Rackliffe (Food & Nutrition) and freshman Payton Bruegger (History) were the two honorees from the women’s basketball squad.

Student-athletes that compete in championship varsity sports offered by each of the MASCAC institutions during the winter athletic season and have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average during the semester are eligible for selection to the Winter All-Academic Team.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation’s oldest Division III men’s and women’s playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom.  MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University.  Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of men’s ice hockey and football, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013-14.
