46 Rams Named to Spring 2015 MASCAC All-Academic Team

Westfield, Mass. — A total of 757 student-athletes, including 46 from Framingham State University, have been honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) with selection to the league’s Spring 2015 All-Academic Team as announced earlier this week by MASCAC Commissioner Angela Baumann.

Ice hockey leads the way with 14 selections, while women’s lacrosse follows closely with 12.  The 2015 softball squad placed eight and men’s basketball landed seven on the spring all-academic squad, while women’s baseball and baseball had three and two student-athletes honored, respectively.

Honorees from the ice hockey team include seniors Dylan Cosford (Criminology), Ryan McDonald (Business Management), and Jay Nicholls (Business Administration), juniors Cameron Hoffman (Management), Melvin Nichols (Finance) and Sean Parker (Economics), sophomores Mark Essery (Biology), Tom Fahey (Sociology), Vaughn Guetens (Accounting), and Alessio Muggli (Business Administration) and freshmen Tyler Gmerek (Biology), Dylan Knox (Political Science), Rob Meadows (Business Administration), and Matt Pearless (Biology).

The women’s lacrosse team placed seniors Nicole L’Heureux (Mathematics) and Zoe Reilly (Food Science), sophomores Brianna Alimonti (Biology), Claryssa Cunniff (Psychology), Kristen Hoggins (Elementary Education), Kayla Hopkins (Communications), Tori Lane (Elementary Education), Devan Peterson (Sociology), and Amy Rotger (Elementary Education), and freshmen Morghan Cassella (Accounting), Mallory Fredericks (Sociology), and Abby Smith (Psychology) on the spring all-academic team.

Junior Kourtney Kacian (Biology), sophomores Danielle Belliveau (Nutrition), Kylie Boyle (History), Marissa Flynn (Elementary Education), and Ashley Lees (Psychology), and freshmen Anna Dziok (Mathematics), Kayla Majewski (Secondary Education), and Dayna Marchant (Economics) were honored from the 2015 softball squad.

Student-athletes from the men’s basketball team include juniors Joe McCabe (Criminology) and Tim McCarthy (Sociology), and sophomores Matt Diver (Business Administration), Daniel Gould (History), Patrick Gould (History), Tim Mangano (Criminology) and Steve Murphy (Criminology).   Sophomores Alycia Rackliffe (Food & Nutrition) and Sarah Palace (Criminology), and freshman Lauren Donahue (Education) were the three honorees from the women’s basketball squad, while senior Billy Derosier (Business Administration) and freshman Matt Brockett (Management) were recognized from the baseball team.

Student-athletes that compete in championship varsity sports offered by each of the MASCAC institutions during the spring academic semester and have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average during the semester are eligible for selection to the Spring All-Academic Team.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation’s oldest Division III men’s and women’s playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom.  MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University.  Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of men’s ice hockey and football, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013-14.
