58 Rams Named to Spring 2016 MASCAC All-Academic Team

Westfield, Mass. - A total of 855 student-athletes, including 58 from Framingham State University, have been honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) with selection to the league's Spring 2016 All-Academic Team as announced earlier this week by MASCAC Commissioner Angela Baumann.

Ice hockey and women's lacrosse lead the way with 14 selections apiece, while baseball follows closely behind with 12.  The 2016 softball squad placed eight, while men's and women's basketball had six and four student-athletes honored, respectively.

Honorees from the ice hockey team include seniors Cameron Hoffman (Management) and Melvin Nichols (Economics), juniors Vaughn Guetens (Accounting) and Alessio Muggli (Management), sophomores Chris Gravelle (Liberal Studies), Michael Kelly (Management), Jack Murphy (Finance), Victor Narkestam (Marketing), Matt Pearless (Biology) and Greg Stoya (Business & IT) and freshmen Adam Calabrese (Computer Science), Jake McKinnon (Criminology), Andrew Newis (Marketing) and Scott Nicholich (Economincs).

The women's lacrosse team placed seniors Alysha Cericola (Mathematics) and Tori Lane (Liberal Studies), juniors Claryssa Cunniff (Psychology), Kristen Hoggins (Liberal Studies), Devan Peterson (Sociology) and Amy Rotger (Liberal Studies), sophomores Morghan Cassella (Accounting), Kimmy Foley (Psychology), Mallory Fredericks (Global Studies), Kristen Keenan (Psychology) and Mary Saffioti (Communication Arts) and freshmen Lauren Adams (Marketing), Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath (Studio Art) and Erin Lally (Mathematics) on the spring all-academic team.

Senior Jon Chapman (Sociology), juniors Bobby Campbell (Mathematics), Cole Josselyn (Management) and Ryan Wardwell (Criminology), sophomores Cam Borelli (Food & Nutrition), Matt Brockett (Management), Kyle Pileski (Management), Brian Quinn (Marketing) and Chris Riga (Psychology), and freshmen Kevin Bonkowski (Accounting), Alex Erwin (Management) and Blake Waters (Undeclared) were all recognized from the baseball squad.

Honorees from the softball team include juniors Rachel Desrochers (Mathematics), Casey Fanning (Sociology) and Tiffanie Marsh (Criminology), sophomores Dayna Marchant (Economics) and Jessica Pietersen (Biology), and freshmen Kelsi Gunarathne (Criminology), Lauren Salisbury (Food & Nutrition) and Amanda Troiano (Psychology).

Student-athletes from the men's basketball team include seniors Joe McCabe (Criminology) and Tim McCarthy (Sociology), juniors Matt Diver (Finance), Daniel Gould (Business Management) and Patrick Gould (History) and sophomore Ben Roache (History).   Juniors Alycia Rackliffe (Food & Nutrition) and Sarah Palace (Criminology), sophomore Quinn O'Connell (Communication Arts) and freshman Olivia Warila (Management) were the four honorees from the women's basketball squad.

Student-athletes that compete in championship varsity sports offered by each of the MASCAC institutions during the spring academic semester and have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester-based grade point average during the semester are eligible for selection to the Spring All-Academic Team.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom.  MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University.  Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of men's ice hockey and football, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013-14.
