Cross Country Competes at WNE Invitational

Springfield, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's cross country team placed 12th and the men's placed 14th at the Western New England (WNE) Invitational on Saturday afternoon.  WPI captured the top spot in the men's race, while Westfield State placed first in the women's.

The women's team was led by senior Rachael Copper (Framingham, Mass.) who placed 33rd in a time of 21:10 for the 5K course.  Behind Cooper in 57th and 84th places were freshman Janet Brady (Whitman, Mass.) (22:01) and senior Michelle Korn (Cortlandt Manor, NY) (22:58).  Rounding out the finishers for the Rams was freshman Shaina Howard (Bellingham, Mass.) (24:08), senior Diane Williamson (Orleans, Mass.) (26:05) and freshman Kendra Lohr (Southampton, Mass.) (32:52).    

The men's top finisher was freshman Joseph Schow (Southboro, Mass.) who finished 39th completing the 8K course in 28:51. Behind Schow was junior Greg Hartwich (Holliston, Mass.) in 82nd (30:26) and senior Joe Jarvis (Hopedale, Mass.) who finished in 31:11.  Junior Colin Mettey (Holyoke, Mass.) (32:32), Alex Martin (Boylston, Mass.) (32:40), Mike Merola (Framingham, Mass.) (33:49) who knocked two minutes off his previous personal best time, and Constantino Panullo (Medford, Mass.) (46:10) round out the Rams finishers.

Both teams return to action next Saturday at the YSCC Invitational hosted by NHIT with the women's race beginning at 10:45 a.m. and the men's at 11:30 a.m.
