Women’s Cross Country Chosen to Finish Sixth in MASCAC Preseason Poll

Buzzards Bay, Mass. — The Framingham State University women's cross country team has been tabbed to finish sixth while the Owls of Westfield State University are the pre-season pick to win the 2011 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country championship in a vote of the league's coaches.

Defending MASCAC champion Westfield State captured six first place votes to amass 61 points and top second place Bridgewater State's total of 57 points that included the other two first place votes. Worcester State is next in third place with 49 points, while Fitchburg State and Salem State follow in fourth and fifth place with 38 and 26 points, respectively. Framingham State is next in sixth place with 23 points, while Massachusetts Maritime and MCLA round out in the poll in seventh and eighth place, respectively, with 21 and 13 points.

Now in its fifth decade of service to eight institutions in the Commonwealth, the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University, are affiliate members of the conference in the sport of men's ice hockey.
