Volleyball Falls in First Round of NCAA Tournament at Stevens

Hoboken, N.J. – The Framingham State University women's volleyball team fell to the host Stevens Institute of Technology in three sets (21-25, 19-25, 6-25) in the opening round of the 2014 NCAA Div. III Championship Tournament Friday Evening at the Canavan Arena.

The Rams find their season come to a close with an overall record of 23-12, crowned Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) regular season and tournament champions and only the second team in program history to reach the NCAA tournament.

The Rams were led by sophomores Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) with eleven kills and Julia Wan (South Deerfield, Mass.) with seven kills and thirteen digs.

The Rams came out strong trading points with the Ducks for most of the first game. The Rams led 12-10 before Stevens went on a run to lead 14-18. The Rams cut the score to 18-19 before the Ducks were able to put the game away by a score 21-25.

Framingham State again started strong taking a 4-1 advantage in the second match. The Ducks stormed back to tie a few points later, took the lead and didn't relinquish it winning 19-25. The Ducks came out strong and took a commanding lead and took the match 6-25.  

The Ducks of Stevens Institute advances to the second round of the tournament to face Roger Williams on Saturday.
