Volleyball Knocks Off Worcester State and WPI

Worcester, Mass. – Behind 23 kills from sophomore Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.), the Framingham State University volleyball team defeated Worcester State University 3-1 this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this morning at WPI. The Rams closed the day with a 3-2 victory over the Engineers.

With the victory over Worcester State, the Rams improve to 5-0 in the MASCAC and sit alone atop the conference standings with one conference match left to play.  The loss was Lancers first conference loss of the season as they now sit at 3-1 in a tie for second with Westfield State.

Rackliffe led all players with 23 kills on 42 attempts with just four errors in the victory over the Lancers and she filled the stat sheet with three aces, four digs and four blocks.  Junior Annie DeLoid (Plymouth, Mass.) also had a solid game with 14 kills on 29 attempts with two blocks.  The back row was led by 20 digs from sophomore Julia Wan (South Deerfield, Mass.) and 18 from senior Courtney Wilbur (Braintree, Mass.).  Seniors Maribeth Martin (Barnstable, Mass.) and Morgan Drew (South Easton, Mass.) combined for 44 set assists.

The Lancers were led by 14 kills and 19 digs from senior Alyssa Jasper.  Meghan Deighan and Jamika Townsend added 13 and 12 kills respectively.  Townsend racked up 16 digs to go along with her 12 kills, while Jennifer Cabral also chipped in with 16 digs.  Amanda Lewis dished out a match-best 43 set assists.

In their second match of the day against the Engineers, the Rams once again received a strong performance from Rackliffe.  Rackliffe picked up 18 kills on 45 attempts to go along with seven aces, four assists, and four blocks.  Wan recorded double digit kills and digs with 12 and 34.  Wilbur continued her solid play with 26 digs, while junior Danielle Girard (Tivoli, NY) added 13.  DeLoid closed the day with 16 kills in the victory over WPI, while Martin picked up 30 set assists.

The Engineers were led by 13 kills from Kenzie Whalen and nine from Brooke Klepper.  Melissa Daigle led the defensive effort with 21 digs, while Cassandra Tomerlin added 18.  Shay Feeley picked up a match-high 38 set assists for the hosts.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday night with a non-conference match at Emmanuel College.
