Volleyball Downs Salve Regina 3-1

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University volleyball team withstood a strong third and fourth set by the Salve Regina University Seahawks and were able to secure a 3-1 victory this evening in non-conference action at the Athletic Center.   

Framingham State (11-2) took the first two sets 25-22 and 25-18, before the Seahawks (6-6) came storming out in the third opening up a 19-9 lead. Salve Regina eventually took the third game 25-18 and the Rams took the fourth 25-23 after rattling off consecutive points to break open a 19-19 game.

The Rams were led offensively by the trio of sophomores Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Julia Wan (South Deerfield, Mass.) and junior Danielle Girard (Tivoli, NY). Rackliffe picked up a match-best 15kills to go along with five assists, five digs and three solo blocks, while Wan filled the stat sheet with 13 kills, two aces, and 17 defensive digs.  Girard recoded double digit kills and digs with 11 and 15.  Senior Courtney Wilbur (Braintree, Mass.) was solid defensively for the Rams with 20 digs, while classmate Maribeth Martin (Barnstable, Mass.) recorded 20 set assists.

The Seahawks were led by the tandem of seniors Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, NH) and Katelyn Beauregard (Dartmouth, Mass.) who picked up 10 kills apiece.  Duggan had a solid all-around game with 14 digs, and two aces, while senior Dianna Tauro (Melrose, Mass.) and freshman Tara Kellenbarger (Encinitas, CA) were solid defensively with 17 and 15 kills, respectively.

The Rams are back in action on Thursday evening when they host Massachusetts Maritime in a MASCAC match beginning at 6 p.m., while the Seahawks host Roger Williams on Friday evening at 7 p.m. in a CCC match-up.
