Volleyball Falls at Plymouth State

Plymouth, NH – The Framingham State University volleyball team fell in straight sets on the road as Plymouth State University picked up its first win of the season Tuesday evening with a 3-0 victory over the Rams in non-conference action at Foley Gymnasium.

The first two sets were very close with PSU pulling out 25-23 and 25-22 victories, before the Panthers put the match away with a 25-17 verdict in the third set. PSU is now 1-4 on the season while Framingham State, which was coming off four straight victories last weekend to capture the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, is now 5-2 overall.

Senior Jana Nieman (Fair Lawn, N.J.) and sophomore Kayla Wyland (Melrose, Mass.) posted solid performances for the home team.  Nieman made a team-high eight kills and Wyland recorded seven kills and a team-best four blocks.  Junior Michelle Davis (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) and sophomore Brianna Wojtas (Salem, N.H.) chipped in with five kills apiece with neither recording an attack error, and sophomore Reegan McKenney (Dover, N.H.) also added five kills. Freshman libero Brianna Wojtas (Salem, N.H.) finished with 13 digs and junior setter Kirsten Perrotta (Hudson, N.H.) registered 27 assists.

Sophomores Julia Wan (South Deerfield, Mass.) and Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) topped the Rams' effort with seven kills each, while junior Annie DeLoid (Plymouth, Mass.) added six winners. Wan also posted a team-high 12 digs, and senior setters Maribeth Martin (Barnstable, Mass.) and Morgan Drew (South Easton, Mass.) combined for 19 assists.

PSU plays its Little East Conference opener this Saturday at Rhode Island College at noon. Framingham State faces Newbury College and the University of Southern Maine Saturday at Newbury.
