Volleyball Opens Season Splitting Matches with Lasell and Emerson

Newton, Mass. – The Framingham State University volleyball team opened the 2014 season splitting a pair of matches with Lasell College and Emerson.  The Rams opened the day defeating Lasell 3-0 before falling to Emerson 3-1.

The Rams are now 1-1 on the season, while Lasell is still in search of their first victory at 0-5 and Emerson remains unbeaten at 3-0.

Sophomore Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) led the Rams in the opener with 15 kills and three blocks, while classmate Julia Wan (South Deerfield, Mass.) chipped in nine kills and eight digs.  Junior Danielle Girard (Tivoli, NY) and senior Courtney Wilbur (Braintree, Mass.) led the defensive effort with 10 digs apiece.

In the second match of the day, Rackliffe once again led the attack with a team high 10 kills, while Wan added eight.  Girard and Wilbur once again were solid in the back row with 16 and 14 digs respectively.  Senior Maribeth Martin (Barnstable, Mass.) contributed 19 set assists.

The Rams are back in action over the weekend at the UMass Dartmouth invitation with a pair of matches on Friday evening and a pair on Saturday afternoon.
