Volleyball Splits with Salve Regina and Newbury

Newport, RI – The Framingham State University volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches this afternoon defeating Newbury College 3-0 before falling to Salve Regina University 3-1 in a tri-match hosted by the Seahawks.

The Rams are now 9-2 on the season with both of their losses coming at the hands of the 12-1 Seahawks.  Newbury is now 6-9 on the season.

The Rams defeated Newbury by scores of 25-21, 25-11 and 25-17.  Freshman Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) led the Rams with eight kills, five aces and two blocks, while sophomore Annie DeLoid (Plymouth, Mass.), senior Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.) and freshman Julia Wan (South Deerfield, Mass.) chipped in six kills apiece.  Freshman Sara Malicka (Southington, Conn.) led the Rams back line with seven digs.

In their second match of the day the Rams fell in the first game 25-18 to Salve Regina before taking the second 25-23. The Seahawks regrouped and took the final two sets 25-16 and 25-18.  Fernandes led the Rams with 12 kills, while Rackliffe added 10.  Wan had a solid game with eight kills and 16 digs. Sophomore Danielle Girard (Tivoli, NY) led the back line with 20 digs.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday evening with a non-conference game at Anna Maria beginning at 7 p.m.
