Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match with Southern Maine and St. Joseph’s

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University volleyball team swept a non-conference tri-match this afternoon at Framingham's Athletic Center with the University of Southern Maine and the University of St. Joseph.  

The Rams defeated both teams by a score of 3-0, while Southern Maine defeated St. Joseph's 3-0 in the day's other match.  With the pair of victories the Rams improve to 6-1 on the season, while the Huskies are now 8-2 and the Blue Jays slip to 2-6.

Framingham State claimed victory in a hard fought match against Southern Maine by scores of 26-24, 25-20 and 27-25.  The Rams were led by freshman Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) with 12 kills and eight digs, while senior Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.) followed with 10 kills and 10 digs.  Freshman Julia Wan (South Deerfield, Mass.) chipped in 16 digs and five aces, while junior Maribeth Martin (Barnstable, Mass.) added 17 assists.

The Huskies were led in the opener by 10 kills and 18 digs from freshman Amanda Keppel (Springfield, PA), while sophomore Demi Ruder (Grand Junction, CO) chipped in with 16 digs and freshman Megan Nilson (Granby, CT) added 10 assists.

In the day's second match Southern Maine defeated St. Joseph's 25-17, 25-21 and 25-14.  Keppel once again led the Huskies with double digit kills and digs with 10 and 19.  Freshman Kristina Rubico (Chelmsford, Mass.) added seven kills, while Ruder chipped in 15 digs.  Nilson and freshman Shelby Park (Thorburn, Nova Scotia) chipped in with 12 and 11 set assists.

The Blue Jays were led by nine kills and eight digs from junior Ciara Perez (Manchester, CT), while classmate Megan Williams added a game-high 18 assists.  Junior Elizabeth Tuazon (Mystic, CT) contributed 13 digs, while Williams added nine.

The Rams closed the day with a straight set win over the Blue Jays by scores of 25-11, 25-15 and 25-21. Rackliffe once again led the Rams with 14 kills on 17 attempts with no errors, while Fernandes added eight kills.  Wan once again had a strong game from the service line with five aces.  Rackliffe added four aces and Martin chipped in three.

The Blue Jays were led by eight kills and five digs from Perez, while Williams added 16 assists.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday evening when they open MASCAC play at Salem State at 7 pm.   The Blue Jays are also back in action Tuesday with a non-conference match at Elms at 7 p.m., while the Huskies are at Unity on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
