Newport, R.I. – The Framingham State University volleyball team suffered their first set back of the season this evening with a 3-0 loss to Salve Regina in non-conference action at Rogers Recreation Center. The Seahawks defeated the Rams by set scores of 25-11, 25-21, 25-13.

The Rams and Seahawks were in a tight battle for the first half of the first set until junior Taylor Violet (Tiverton, R.I.) stepped behind the service line with the score 13-10 in favor of the Seahawks. Violet rattled off eight-straight points for Salve Regina to push its lead to 21-11. Junior Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, N.H.) sealed the victory for the Seahawks at the service line with the help of a pair of kills from junior Katelyn Beauregard (Dartmouth, Mass.).

The Seahawks opened up the second set with a 3-1 lead before the Rams stormed back to tie the game at 4-4 behind the serving of freshman Julia Wan (South Deerfield, Mass.). With the score 13-8 in favor of the hosts, junior Erin McGloin (West Islip, N.Y.) served the Seahawks to a 17-10 lead. Framingham St. would not back down, however, and battled to pull within three at 22-19. The two teams continued to trade points to close out the set, with the Seahawks getting the final point, 25-21, on a service error by the Rams.

Salve Regina raced out to a 12-6 lead in the third and final set and never looked back. Behind the serving of sophomore Danielle Girard (Tivoli, N.Y.), the Rams pulled within six at 17-11, but that would be as close as they would get in the final set. Senior Clare Adams (New Concord, Ohio) finished out the set for the Seahawks to keep Salve Regina perfect on the year.

Adams led all players with 11 kills on the evening with Violet handing out 24 assists in the three-set match. Sophomore Annie DeLoid (Plymouth, Mass.) and senior Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.) paced the Rams with six kills each while junior Maribeth Martin dished out 11 assists.

Salve Regina returns to action as the Seahawks travel to Nashua, N.H. for a tri-match with Rivier and Babson while the Rams host Southern Maine and St. Joseph's (Conn.) in a tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 14 with the first match beginning at 12 p.m.
