Volleyball Picks up 3-1 Victory over Mount Ida

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University volleyball team opened the 2013 season with a 3-1 victory this evening over Mount Ida College in non-conference action at Framingham's Athletic Center.   

The Rams are now 1-0 on the young season, while Mount Ida is now 1-4.

Framingham State won the first game 25-14, before Mount Ida grabbed the second 25-21.  The Rams closed the match with a 25-14 victory in the third game and held off the Mustangs surge in the fourth 25-17 to secure the victory.

Freshman Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) led the Rams with 14 kills, four aces and four digs, while sophomore Danielle Girard (Tivoli, NY) and freshman Julia Wan (South Deerfield, Mass.) chipped in nine kills apiece.  Juniors Maribeth Martin (Barnstable, Mass.) and Morgan Drew (North Easton, Mass.) added 19 and 10 assists respectively.

The Mustangs were led by 11 kills from junior Hillary Kostner (Corona, Calif.).  Sophomore Kelcey Koolman (Bedford, NH) led the defensive effort with 19 digs, while classmate Nicole Peixoto (New Bedford, Mass.) chipped in 28 assists.

The Rams return to action on Saturday afternoon with three matches at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Tournament, while the Mustangs travel to Wentworth for a tri-match beginning at 10 a.m.
