Volleyball Falls to Western New England 3-0

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's volleyball team was defeated in straight sets at home this evening by Western New England University in non-conference women's volleyball action. 

The Golden Bears extend their current win streak to three as they improve to 14-2 on the season, while the Rams see their three game win streak end as they are now 15-5 on the year.

Western New England took control of the first set jumping out to a 5-1 lead and extending it to as many as 12 when they grabbed a 17-5 advantage.  The Golden Bears finally took the first set by a score of 25-11 behind strong hitting from sophomore Kasey Cameron (Reading, Mass.) and senior Devyn Frank (Mystic, Conn.) who combined for 10 kills in the opening game.

In game two, the Golden Bears once again jumped out to a 15-9 lead before the Rams rattled off four straight points including an ace from freshman Danielle Girard (Tivoli, NY) to cut the deficit to 15-13.  Western New England regrouped and pushed the lead back to four before taking a 25-19 victory. 

The Golden Bears controlled the third set jumping out to an 8-2 lead early and extending it to 19-7 before taking the frame 25-13.  

Frank, Cameron and junior Maureen Pollet (Dix Hills, NY) led the Golden Bears with nine kills apiece, while sophomore Grace Kucharski (Avon, Conn.) led the defensive effort with a match-best 17 digs.

The Rams were led by junior Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.) who had a match-high 10 kills to go along with seven digs, while sophomore Kassandra Jermyn (Auburn, Mass.) contributed 21 assists.  Sophomore Michelle DeJesus (Framingham, Mass.) led the Rams back row with 11 digs.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Eastern Nazarene and Wentworth in a non-conference tri-match with the first match slated to begin at 11 a.m., while the Golden Bears travel to Babson for a tri-match with Western Connecticut with the first match beginning at 11 a.m.
