Volleyball Splits Two at UMass Dartmouth Invitational

North Dartmouth, Mass. – The Framingham State University volleyball team extended their season opening win streak to seven with a hard fought 3-2 victory over Regis College in their first match of day two at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, before suffering their first defeat of the season, a 3-0 loss at the hand of the hosts in the final match.

The Rams are now 7-1 on the young season as junior Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.) and sophomore Ashley Nee (Hanson, Mass.) were named to the All-Tournament team.

The Rams defeated Regis in five by scores of 23-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-17 and 15-13 and were defeated by UMass Dartmouth by scores of 25-22, 25-14, and 25-23.

Nee, Fernandes and freshman Danielle Girard (Tivoli, NY) started day two recording double digit kills in the five set victory.  Nee led the way with a team-best 21 kills on 46 attacks with four errors to go along with 28 digs and two blocks.  Fernandes chipped in 18 kills, while Girard added 14.  Sophomore Kassandra Jermyn (Auburn, Mass.) picked up 40 assists in the match.

In the second match, Fernandes once again recorded double digit kills with 10, while Nee added seven.  Sophomore Michelle DeJesus (Framingham, Mass.) led the defensive effort with 21 kills, while Nee chipped in three blocks and Jermyn added 28 assists.

The Rams begin conference action on Tuesday night when they host Massachusetts Maritime Academy at 7 p.m.
