Volleyball Goes 3-0 at Gordon Invitational

Wenham, Mass. – Junior Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.) was named Tournament Most Valuable Player and sophomore Ashley Nee (Hanson, Mass.) was named to the All-Tournament Team as the Framingham State University volleyball team went 3-0 to win the Gordon Invitational this afternoon.

The Rams won their opening match 3-0 over Newbury before taking this second match of the day 3-1 over St. Joseph's (CT).  The Rams closed the day with a straight set victory over Suffolk University to secure the Tournament Title. 

In the opening match Fernandes and Nee led the Rams with 13 and eight kills respectively.  Nee also chipped in a team-best six blocks, while sophomores Morgan Drew (North Easton, Mass.) and Michelle DeJesus (Framingham, Mass.) also had strong matches.  Drew picked up 17 assists, while DeJesus led the defensive effort with nine digs.

Drew continued her strong play with 24 assists in match two, while Fernandes and Nee each recorded double digit kills.  Fernandes chipped in a game-high 24 kills and 11 digs, while Nee added 11 kills and four blocks.  Freshman Danielle Girard (Tivoli, NY) recorded 16 digs in the second victory.

In the day's final match Fernandes and Girard led the Rams attack with 15 and 11 kills respectively.  Fernandes closed the day with her second double double as she also picked up 10 digs. 

The Rams return to action on Tuesday night with a non-conference match at Mount Ida at 7 p.m.
