Framingham, Mass. – The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team swept at tri-match with Framingham State and the University of Maine at Fort Kent this afternoon in Framingham defeating both teams 3-0.  The Rams defeated Maine Fort Kent 3-0 in the day's other match.

Emmanuel College, who has now swept tri-matches on back-to-back days, improves to 9-11 on the season, while the Rams are now 10-7 with the split.  With the two losses Maine Fort Kent falls to 3-7 on the year.

The Rams took the day's first match by scores of 25-11, 25-21 and 25-16.  In the first set, the Rams took control midway through and opened up a 17-10 lead on back-to-back aces by freshman libero Kayla Bertrand (Agawam, Mass.). The Rams extended their lead to 24-11 before closing the set on a kill from freshman Ashley Nee (Hanson, Mass.).

In the second set the Bengals took 14-12 lead as they capitalized on a pair of FSU errors and received a big block from freshman Ericka Christensen (Warren, ME) and kill by Maliesha Caesar (Cayon, St. Kitts).  The Rams came back tying the set and taking a 16-15 lead on a pair of kills from Nee, but Ft. Kent retied the game at 20-20 on a kill from Elsa Gelagay (San Jose, CA) and block from Quintina Young (Portland, ME).  The Rams rattled off the next three points and eventually closed the set on an ace by junior Courtney Moylan (Bourne, Mass.).

In the third game, after trading points the Rams ran off five straight to take a 17-12 lead.  The Rams extended their lead to six before closing the set and securing the win in the match.

In the second match of the day, Emmanuel College defeated UMaine Fort Kent by scores of 25-17, 25-9 and 25-16.  In the first set, the Saints opened up a 20-11 lead behind the strong play of seniors Rebecca Stanton (Quincy, Mass.) and Jenna Ross (Centerburg, OH) who picked up multiple kills each in the frame.  In the second set, the Saints rattled off 11 points in a row with Stanton serving to open up a commanding 20-6 lead and they were able to close the set on an ace from freshman Christin Durkee (Salem, CT) and a tip from Ross.

The thirds set started with the teams trading points and Emmanuel once again used a 6-0 run to open up a 19-12 as they cruised to the three set win in the match.

In the final match of the day, the first set went back and forth with neither the Rams nor the Saints leading by more than three points. Tied at 13-13, the Saints rattled off six straight points as they capitalized on Ram errors to take a 19-13 lead.  The Rams closed the gap to 21-17, but that was as close as they would get as Emmanuel went on to win the set 25-20.

Emmanuel won the second and third sets by identical scores of 25-17.  In the second set the Saints jumped out to a quick 10-4 lead before the Rams came back and were down two at 14-12.  A monster kill by Stanton, a tandem block by Stanton and Ross and a Ross kill put the Saints in front 17-13 and they cruised to the win in the second.

Emmanuel opened a big lead in the third set going up 12-6 and they extended the lead to 14-6 on an FSU error and a kill from Kathryne Olsen (Fairhaven, Mass.).  The Rams battled back but Emmanuel was able to close the door and pick up the win in the set to close the match.

Nee led the Rams attack in their opening match with 13 kills, while Fernandes added nine in the first and eight in the second.  Bertrand finished the day with 24 digs, while Moylan finished the two matches with four aces.

The Rams and the Saints return to action on Tuesday with Framingham traveling to Anna Maria College at 7 p.m. and Emmanuel is hosting Lesley University at 7 p.m.  The Bengals return to action next Saturday as they travel to Southern Maine for a match at 1 p.m.
