Volleyball Suffers 3-0 Loss to Westfield State

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University volleyball team suffered their first conference loss of the season as they were defeated 3-0 in straight sets by Westfield State on Homecoming and Family Weekend in Framingham.  The Owls recorded their first Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) victory of the season winning by scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-13.

The Rams fall to 8-6 overall on the year with the loss and are now 1-1 in the MASCAC, while the Owls are 5-9 overall and 1-0 in conference.

Sophomore outside hitter Julia Warner (Lee, Mass.) led the Owls with a match-high 10 kills, 15 digs and four aces, while senior Alex Shaw (East Falmouth, Mass.) chipped in nine kills and is now four kills shy of 1,000 in her career.  Senior setter Kerin DeGirolamo (North Attleboro, Mass.) compiled 33 assists in the match to go along with a team and match-high five aces.

The Rams were led by freshman middle hitter Ashley Nee (Hanson, Mass.) who picked up a team-high nine kills, while sophomore Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.) added five kills and 11 digs.  Freshman setter Morgan Drew (North Easton, Mass.) chipped in 17 assists and four digs.

Both teams return to conference action on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. with the Rams to hosting MCLA and the Owls entertaining Worcester State.
