Bertrand Selected All-Tournament at UMD Invitational as Volleyball Splits a Pair of Matches

North Dartmouth, Mass. – Freshman Kayla Bertrand (Agawam, Mass.) was selected to the All-Tournament team at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Volleyball Invitational as the Rams went 1-1 on day two. 

The Rams defeated SUNY Cobleskill in their first match of the day 3-1 and closed the tournament with a 3-0 loss to the host Corsairs.  Over the two day tournament, the Rams went 3-1 and improve their season record to 5-3.

In the day's first match, the Rams took the first two sets 25-17 and 25-14 before dropping the third 25-21.  The Rams regrouped and easily took the deciding game 25-16 to secure the victory.  Bertrand led the Rams with a match-high 23 digs and eight aces in the win over SUNY Cobleskill, while classmate Ashley Nee (Hanson, Mass.) picked up a team-high 13 kills and 10 digs.  Sophomores Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.) and Erin Connolly (Lakeville, Mass.) chipped in eight and seven kills respectively.

In their final match the Rams were defeated 3-0 by UMass Dartmouth by scores of 27-25, 25-15 and 25-22.  Bertrand led a trio of Rams with double digit digs as she picked up a team-high 15, while Fernandes picked up 12 and freshman Michelle DeJesus added 10.  Junior Jackie Friel (Centerville, Mass.) led the Rams attack with eight kills, while Fernandes added seven.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday night as they begin conference play at Massachusetts Maritime Academy at 7 p.m.
