Volleyball Goes 2-0 on Day One Of UMass Dartmouth Invitational

North Dartmouth, Mass. – The Framingham State University volleyball team went 2-0 tonight at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Volleyball Invitational.  The Rams defeated Mount Ida 3-1 in their opening match and followed that up with 3-0 win over Salem State in the night cap.  The Rams are now 4-2 on the young season.

The Rams defeated Mount Ida for the second time in less than a week by scores of 25-19, 15-25, 25-22 and 25-15.  The Rams were led by sophomore Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.) and freshman Ashley Nee (Hanson, Mass.).  Fernandes picked up a team-high 12 kills to go along with 14 digs, while Nee racked up a .385 kill percentage with 10 kills and no errors.  Freshman Kayla Bertrand (Agawam, Mass.) chipped in 13 digs, while junior Courtney Moylan (Bourne, Mass.) added 11.  Freshman Morgan Drew (North Easton, Mass.) dished out 33 assists in the match.

In the Rams second match of the day, Fernandes once again led the Rams attack with a team-high 12 kills.  Nee added eight kills and two blocks, while junior Jackie Friel (Centerville, Mass.) and sophomore Erin Connolly (Lakeville, Mass.) added six and five kills respectively.  Bertrand picked up 12 digs, while Drew added 27 assists.

The Rams return to action tomorrow on day two of the Invitational as they face SUNY Cobleskill and the host Corsairs.
