Volleyball Goes 2-1 at BSU Quad

Bridgewater, Mass. – The Framingham State University volleyball team closed the regular season today going 2-1 at the Bridgewater State Halloween Quad.  The Rams opened the day with 3-0 wins over Worcester State University and Massachusetts Maritime before closing the day with a 3-0 setback to the host Bridgewater State Bears.

The Rams finish the 2010 season with a 20-14 record which marks only the third time in the history of the program that they have reached the 20 win plateau.  It is the first time the Rams have reached 20 wins under seventh year head coach Dick Casali and the first time they have reached 20 wins since the 2001 season.

The Rams defeated Worcester State by scores of 27-25, 25-20 and 25-19.  Freshman Maribeth Martin (Marston Mills, Mass.) led the Rams with 21 assists and eight digs, while Jessi Goode (Marston Mills, Mass.) added 11 digs and 13 receptions.  Sophomore Jackie Friel (Centerville, Mass.) and senior Nicole Donofrio (Whitman, Mass.) had strong defensive games with six and four blocks respectively.

In the middle match, the Rams defeated Mass. Maritime by scores of 20-5, 25-19 and 25-6.  Martin picked up a team-high 17 assists, while Donofrio and Friel added four kills apiece.

In the day's final match, the Rams were defeated by BSU by scores of 25-20, 25-14, 25-16.  Martin picked up 15 assists, while freshmen Erin Connolly and Andressa Fernandes chipped in six kills apiece.  Goode chipped in 16 digs and 16 receptions, while Friel picked up four blocks.
