Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match with Regis and Newbury

Brookline, Mass. - The Framingham State Women's Volleyball team defeated both Newbury College and Regis College, going 2-0 in today's tri-match played at Hellenic College in Brookline, MA.  Leading the way for the Rams was Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, MA) as she collected 25 kills on the day.     

In the first match of the day, Framingham and Newbury College battled it out in a four game set but the Rams would eventually collect the win 3-1 (20-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-11).  Fernandes paced all hitters with 16 kills and an impressive .481 hitting percentage, while teammates Lauren Kasischke (Methuen, MA) and Jacquelyn Friel (Centerville, MA) would each add six kills of their own.  Despite the setback, Newbury's Tricia Corriveau (Coventry, RI) hammered down 9 kills and collected 16 digs in the match. 

The second match of the day brought the most excitement as Regis and Framingham would need 5 sets to decide a winner.  In the end, Framingham picked up their second win of the day to complete the sweep 3-2 (25-12, 26-28, 25-16, 23-25, 15-8).  Leading the way once again for the Rams was Fernandes as she finished with a stat line of 9 kills, 7 digs and 4 serving aces.  Despite the hard fought loss, Regis's Julie Endara (Boca Raton, FL) handed out 11 of her day high 34 kills while also picking up 17 of her 30 digs on the day.  

In the third and final match of the day, the Nighthawks defeated Regis College 25-19, 22-25, 25-16, 25-20 to snap a six game losing skid.  Pacing Newbury to victory was first year Outside Hitter Jessy Touron (Brockton, MA) who broke out with 10 kills, 2 serving aces and 16 digs in the match. Regis's Endara would finish the match with 23 kills completing an all around impressive day despite the losses.     

Newbury will take to the court again on Wednesday when they travel to Curry College, game time is set for 7 p.m., while the Rams resume MASCAC action on Saturday with a tri-match at Worcester State with Westfield State.
