Volleyball Defeats Salve Regina 3-0

Framingham, Mass. — The Framingham State University volleyball team snapped a four game losing streak against Salve Regina University with a 3-0 victory tonight at home.  The Rams, who last defeated the Seahawks during the 2006 season, improve to 7-6 on the year, while the Seahawks fall to 2-7.

The Rams held the advantage early in the match taking a 12-6 lead in the first set on a kill by freshman Maribeth Martin (Marston Mills, Mass.).  Salve Regina would close the gap and pull within four points at 14-10, but the Rams would maintain their lead eventually winning the set 25-21.

In the second set, Salve Regina jumped out to a quick 6-3, but the Rams would claw their way back and eventually tie the score at 15-15 on a Salve Regina hitting error. The Rams would take their first lead of the set on another SRU error and extend the lead to two on a monster kill by senior Ashley Trudeau (Rockland, Mass.).  The Rams would close out the set on an ace from Jessi Goode (Marston Mills, Mass.) and a kill by Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.) to win the set 25-22 and take a 2-0 lead.

In the third, the Rams opened up an 11-5 lead on a kill by Fernandes and a Trudeau ace.  They would extend their lead to 20-12 and eventually win the set 25-12 on back-to-back aces by Goode.

Trudeau led the Rams with 13 kills and nine digs in the match, while Fernandes finished with nine kills.  Goode finished with three aces and 17 digs, while Martin chipped in four kills and 29 assists.

The Rams return to action on Saturday at 10 a.m. as they travel to Daniel Webster for a tri-match with UMaine Fort Kent, while the Seahawks travel to Gordon for a tri-match with Western New England.
