Volleyball Picks Up Three Victories at Day 1 of the Pride Invitational

Weston, Mass. – At day one of the Pride Invitational hosted by Regis College, the Framingham State University volleyball team went 3-1.  The Rams opened the day with a 3-1 loss to Division II Assumption College before closing the day with three straight wins over the host Pride, Worcester State University and Suffolk University.

The Rams lost to Assumption by scores of 25-9, 20-25, 25-17 and 25-22.  Freshman setter Maribeth Martin (Marston Mills, Mass.) picked up 21 assists, while senior Ashley Trudeau (Rockland, Mass.) chipped in 13 kills and 10 digs.  Freshman Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.) also contributed double digit kills with a career-high 10 in the match.

The Rams defeated Regis College by a score of 3-1. FSU dropped the first set 19-25 and then rattled off three straight by scores of 25-14, 25-11 and 25-15.  Martin picked up 32 assists, while Trudeau and Fernandes added 13 and nine kills, respectively.  Sophomore Jackie Friel (Centerville, Mass.) added five blocks.

Framingham State defeated MASCAC rival Worcester State 3-0 in a non-conference match with Martin once again recording over 30 assists.  Trudeau added 15 kills and senior Lauren Kasischke (Methuen, Mass.) added seven.  Libero Jessi Goode (Marston Mills, Mass.) had a solid match with 19 digs.

The Rams closed the day with another 3-0 victory defeating Suffolk by scores of 25-20, 25-21, and 25-13.  Goode recorded 26 digs, while Allie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) added 15.  Trudeau chipped in 12 kills, while Martin added 20 assists.
