Volleyball Opens 2010 Season with 3-0 Win Over Gordon College

Framingham, Mass. — The Framingham State University volleyball team opened the 2010 season tonight at home with a 3-0 win over Gordon College.  The Rams won by scored of 25-20, 25-12, and 25-13.

Gordon College (0-1) opened up the first set playing well and took a commanding 14-6 lead.  The Rams came alive and battled back and tied the set at 19-19 on a hitting error by the Fighting Scotts.  Framingham State took their first lead of the game, 20-19, on another Gordon College miscue and senior Ashley Trudeau (Rockland, Mass.) extended the lead to two with an ace for the Rams. She served for two more points giving the Rams the 23-20 lead.  Senior Lauren Kasischke would end the set for the Rams with a kill.  The Rams cruised to the wins in the second and third game to pick up the victory.

Trudeau led the Rams with nine kills, three aces and eight digs, while classmate Jessi Goode (Marston Mills, Mass.) picked up 18 digs and nine service receptions. Kasischke finished with four kills and Jackie Friel (Hyannis, Mass.) and Nicole Donofrio (Whitman, Mass.) chipped in three and two blocks respectively.

The Rams return to action on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Pride Invitational hosted by Regis College in Weston, while the Fighting Scotts travel to Simmons for a tri-match on Saturday beginning at 4 p.m.
