Roger Williams Blanks Women’s Soccer 6-0

Framingham, Mass. – Senior Samantha Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) tallied a hat trick to lead the Roger Williams University women's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Framingham State University in non-conference action this afternoon at Maple Street Field.

With the win, the Hawks improve to 4-5-2, while the Rams slip to 2-6 on the season.

The Rams had a chance to get on the board in the opening minutes of the game as junior Kayla Almstrom (Auburn, Mass.) fired a shot off the post. Teammate Cassidy Drosopoulos (Marshfield, Mass.) corralled the rebound and had a shot on the open net, but her bid sailed high.

Roger Williams got on the board at the 21 minute mark as Kasey Provost (Peabody, Mass.) scored off a feed from Morgan Snow (Rowley, Mass.).

The Hawks extended their lead in the 30th minute when Woznicki sent a pass ahead to Snow who carried the ball down the left sideline and placed a shot inside the far post.  Four minutes later, Woznicki found the back of the net off a feed from Gabbi Rozumek (Woodstock, Vt.) giving the Hawks a 3-0 lead.

The Hawks would tack on one more with just six ticks remaining in the half when Woznicki headed in a cross off a corner for her second of the game.

Roger Williams added two more goals in the opening minutes of the second half extending the lead to 6-0.  Woznicki connected on her third of the game when she headed in a corner from Provost in the 47th minute.  In the 51st minute Snow connected on an unassisted tally.

The Rams had a chance to get on the board in the 74th minute as freshman Ana Barretto (Marlborough, Mass.) sent a pass ahead to sophomore Caitlyn Our (Barnstable, Mass.). Our fired a shot, but Roger Williams' keeper came up with the save.

The Hawks outshot the Rams 19-8 in the game with both teams taking four corner kicks in the game.  Senior Natalie O'Donovan (Quincy, Mass.) earned the victory in net for the Hawks making five saves.  Junior Kirsten Hansen (Framingham, Mass.) took the loss allowing four goals with four saves in a half of action, while classmate Jennifer Stevens (Hopkinton, Mass.) made three saves in her half of work.

The Rams are back in action Saturday morning when they host Salem State University in a MASCAC contest beginning at 11 a.m., while the Hawks travel to the University of New England on Saturday for a CCC contest at 2:30 p.m.
