BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team improved its unbeaten streak to eight games, coming home with a 2-1 victory over Framingham State University Wednesday evening.

The win puts the Hawks at 5-0-3 over their last eight games and improves the team to 7-2-3 overall.

Marisa Parent (Revere, Mass.) tried to give the Rams a quick lead in the eighth minute, firing a deep shot from the left side of the field from about 20 yards out. However, her shot just sailed wide right.

The Hawks tried to respond three minutes later, with Jessica Valenti (North Reading, Mass.) putting up a left-footed shot from just inside the right side of the box. Yet Framingham State keeper Jess Anthony (Stoneham, Mass.) made the easy stop on the shot as she was positioned perfectly for the save.

The middle of the first half saw both teams squander good chances to score first. Roger Williams had a perfect opportunity to put the first goal of the game on the board in the 14th minute. Kristen Tetreault (Tolland, Conn.) sent a pass up the right side to a wide-open Haley Carignan (Scarborough, Maine), who had a one-on-one chance with the keeper. Carignan tried going to the far post for the goal, but sent her shot just too wide.

Then in the 17th minute, Abby Smith (Quincy, Mass.) took a chip pass into the box past the Hawk defense and found herself alone with RWU keeper Sydney Martin (Scarborough, Maine). Smith tried to chip it over her head, but pushed it too far right.

Framingham State would eventually capitalize in the 19th minute, with Parent taking the ball into the left side of the box and putting up a hard shot into the upper left corner of the net for her eighth goal of the season and a 1-0 Ram lead.

The Rams' lead wouldn't last, as the Hawks managed to tie the game just before the end of the half. In the 41st minute, Carla Salcedo (Mexico City, Mexico) sent a pass to the right to Mariah Kaiser(Portsmouth, R.I.), who managed to just remain onside and beat the defender. The current NSCAA Division III Player of the Week was able to maneuver around the Rams' goalie for an easy shot on net for the equalizer.

Shortly into the second half, Carignan found herself with another one-on-one chance against Anthony off of a good pass by Valenti. This time, her attempt was on net, but was directly as Anthony, who made the save.

On the following Ram possession, a Hawk foul gave Framingham State a free kick from 30 yards out. Angela Pallotta (Sterling, Mass.) launched the kick on net, which sailed over Martin's head and hit underneath the crossbar. The ball took a Hawk bounce and just stayed out of the net, giving Martin time to secure the loose ball.

In the 55th minute, the Hawks nearly took the lead, as Salcedo put in the loose ball off of a deflected save from a Tetreault shot. However, her goal was called off, with the side referee calling the Hawks offsides.

However, the Hawks managed to push through in the 64th minute, with Valenti taking the ball down the right side and stepping past a Ram defender. After bringing the ball just inside the box, she knocked a shot over the keeper and into the upper left corner, putting RWU up 2-1.

That goal would end up as the game winner, as the Rams continued to try to push the ball into the offensive end over the remainder of the game but could not get a clean shot off.

Martin closed out the evening making three saves in the win, while Anthony had seven saves for the Rams in the loss.

On Saturday, Roger Williams will travel to Nichols College, while Framingham State heads to Salem State.
