Providence R.I. – The Framingham State University women's soccer team held off a late surge by Rhode Island college to preserve a 4-3 victory Wednesday evening at the RIC Soccer Field. With the win the Rams improve to 5-2 and the Anchormen fall to 1-6.

Rhode Island College got on the board first when Greenman took a feed from senior midfielder Harmony Tillison (Cranston, RI) and slipped it to junior forward Gabrielle Turner (Smithfield, RI) who blasted in her fifth goal of the season to give the Anchorwomen the 1-0 lead in the 11th minute.

A foul at 14:08 of the first half by a RIC defender in their own box led to a Framingham State penalty kick, which senior forward Isabela Desouza (Framingham, MA) calmly poked home to tie the score at 1-1.

Desouza tallied her second of the night 14 minutes later when she took a feed from sophomore defender Angela Pallotta (Sterling, MA) and tucked it home. Two minutes later, the Rams struck again when senior forward Marisa Parent (Revere, MA) stole the ball at midfield and rocketed a shot into the RIC net.

Rhode Island College senior goalie Audrey Maia (Norton, MA) recorded two saves in the first stanza, while FSU sophomore Jess Anthony (Stoneham, MA) stopped six.

Parent got on the board quickly in the second half with assists credited to Desouza and sophomore defender Michaela Hyland (East Longmeadow, MA) to up the Rams lead to three, 4-1.

The play was back and forth for the next 15 minutes until RIC began their late surge. Ragosta's tally at 62:03 off a Greenman corner kick started the comeback. The pair reversed roles with Ragosta feeding Greenman a beautiful cross, which she redirected home, to bring the Anchorwomen to within one, 4-3, in the 83rd minute. That was as close as RIC would come as Anthony shut the door on the Anchorwomen in the final seven minutes.

Maia (1-4) made two saves in 62 minutes of work, while classmate Justina Thoma (Canterbury, CT) stopped four in relief. Anthony (2-0) stopped eight in the victory.

The Rams return to action this Saturday when they host Worcester St. in a MASCAC mathup scheduled for noon.
