Worcester, MA - WPI junior Emily Doherty (Shrewsbury, MA) scored a goal in each half as the Engineers defeated visiting Framingham State 3-1 in a non-conference women's soccer contest on Tuesday night at Alumni Stadium.

The win pushes the Engineers record to 3-4 while the Rams dip to 3-2.

Doherty, who was fouled in the box, buried a penalty kick in the lower right corner for sixth goal of the season at 5:50. Doherty looked to strike again at 8:22 but her shot was turned aside by Framingham State junior netminder Sara Sullivan (Quincy, MA). The Engineers made it 2-0 when sophomore Emma Turton (Mechanic Falls, ME) snuck a through ball from senior Abbie McIninch (New Kent, VA) past the keeper. Junior Melissa Miele (Middleton, MA) recorded the first Ram shot-on-goal at 27:40 only to have it saved by WPI sophomore goalkeeper Abbey Teliska (LaGrangeville, NY). In the 42nd minute Teliska was tested again, this time by sophomore Lulu Foy (East Bridgewater, MA).

Freshman Molly Kelley (Medway, MA) scored her first collegiate goal when she chipped in a long pass from senior Marisa Parent(Revere, MA) above the Engineer keeper to cut the hosts lead in half at 53:33. Just over 20 minutes later, Doherty increased the Engineer lead with her second goal of the game at 73:55 following a boot from midfield by freshman Lizzie Rooney (Harvard, MA). It was the junior's league-leading seventh tally of the year and Rooney's first collegiate point.  With 1:16 remaining, Teliska just got her hands on a shot by Parent to protect the hosts two-goal advantage with 1:16 left in the second half.

In all, Teliska made a trio of stops while Sullivan amassed five saves. The Crimson and Gray doubled up the Rams 8-4 on shots and had a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Engineers kickoff a NEWMAC tripleheader on Saturday with an 11am match versus MIT. Framingham State opens its MASCAC slate against Bridgewater State, also on Saturday at 11am.
