Framingham, Mass. – Isabela DeSouza (Framingham, Mass.) converted a penalty kick and helped setup a pair of goals by Marisa Parent (Revere, Mass.) as the junior duo led the Framingham State University women's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Salem State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) match on Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field. With the win, Framingham State moves to 7-1-1 on the year and 2-0-1 in league play while Salem State dipped to 4-3-1 overall and 2-1-0 in conference action.

The Rams took an early lead as Parent's shot sailed to the left of the goalkeeper at 5:52. DeSouza, who aided Parent's 10th goal of the year, converted on a penalty kick four minutes later. Viking sophomore Leah Wood (Loveland, Ohio) put the guests on the board with her first of the year in the 39th minute as she finished off a corner kick put into play by senior Veronica Poirier (Newburyport, Mass.).

Shortly after the break, Wood netted the equalizer when she received a pass from sophomore Kelly Birchmore (Swampscott, Mass.), turned and lifted the ball over the netminders head in the 48th minute. The crossbar took center stage midway through the second half as Wood, looking to complete the hat-trick, sent a high free kick that glanced off the iron. Moments later, Framingham State senior Kayla Austin (Winchester, Mass.) suffered a similar fate as she took aim from the left side. With 21:39 left in the second half, Parent, who finished the day tied atop the MASCAC leaderboard with 11 goals on the year, snapped the 2-2 stalemate when she found an opening in the left side of the net with help from DeSouza.

Sophomore Sara Sullivan (Quincy, Mass.) remained unbeaten as she improved to 5-0-1 in 2013 courtesy of a four-save afternoon. Viking sophomore Rachel Ledbetter (Dracut, Mass.) slipped to 4-3-1 after a three-stop outing.

Framingham State returns to action next Saturday when the team heads to MCLA for a 1 p.m. match. Salem State steps out of conference action for a road contest at Plymouth State on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
