Worcester State Battles Back to Defeat Women's Soccer 2-1

Worcester, Mass. - Freshman Gaby Gonet (Agawam, Mass.) netted a goal and assisted on the game-winning marker to help lead Worcester State University to a 2-1 victory over Framingham State University this morning in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) women's soccer action.

With the win the Lancers improve to 4-2-2 and remain unbeaten at 1-0-1 in conference, while the Rams slip to 3-5 overall and even their record at 1-1 in the MASCAC.

After a scoreless first period that saw the Worcester State hold a 9-1 edge in shots, the Rams used one of their five attempts in the contest to go up 1-0 in the 48th minute. Freshman Marissa D'Angelo (Whitman, Mass.) netted her team-leading fourth tally when she took a feed from junior Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.).

Play continued to go back and forth until Gonet found an opening and potted her fourth goal of the season on a breakway. Less than two minutes after the game tying marker was scored, Gonet made a nice play on the left corner to senior Sarah Connors (Gardner, Mass.) who would fire off a shot from 25-yards out for the match clincher.

Worcester State finished with the advantage in shots (17-5) while Framingham State held a slight edge in corners (5-4).

Senior Rachael Armenti (W. Boylston, Mass.) ended with two saves for WSU, while freshman Kaitlyn Rossi (Pepperell, Mass.) notched eight stops in the setback.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday night at Elms at 7 p.m., while the Lancers travel to Keene State on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
