Women's Soccer Wins Third In a Row

Women's Soccer Wins Third In a Row

Chestnut Hill, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's soccer team defeated Newbury College defeated this afternoon, 6-1.  Leading the way for the Rams was first year midfielder Marissa D'Angelo (Whitman, Mass.) who collected two goals for a total of four points on the day.

The first half was dominated by Framingham State as they outshot the Nighthawks 10-1, finding the back of the net twice in the period.  Laura Gray (Chicopee, Mass.) found Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.) for the first goal of the match, while teammate Mary Brinkmann (Bridgewater, Mass.) served up a corner kick to Megan Gangell (Lee, Mass.) for the second, and the Rams took a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Following the break, Newbury would turn up the pressure as they went on to have 10 shots on goal in the second half, but it was not enough as Framingham rattled off 15 of their own at Newbury goalkeeper Kimberly Bibby (Brockton, Mass.,), who made 11 saves in the game and allowed six goals, four in the second half.  D'Angelo picked up both of her goals in the second half, while Kristi Stewart (Lunenburg, Mass.) and Jess Latini (E. Bridgewater, Mass.) would each score one of their own.

First Year standout Brianna Tomaselli (Warwick, RI) would go on to end the shutout for the Nighthawks as she broke away from midfield and knocked a shot past the Rams keeper with just 30 second left in the game.

The Nighthawks will take to the pitch again on Saturday when they will host Elms College in their conference opener at 2 p.m., while the Rams return to MASCAC action on the road Saturday at Worcester State at 10 a.m.
