Women’s Soccer Falls at Home to Keene State 7-1

Framingham, Mass.  — The Framingham State University women's soccer team was defeated at home today, 7-1, by the Keene State College Owls. With the win, the Owls improve to 3-1-1 on the season, while the Rams are still in search of their first win at 0-3.      

Keene State scored three goals in just over a five minute period in the first half to open up a comfortable lead.  Jessica Berthiaume (Worcester, Mass.) started the scoring for the Owls 12:37 into the game.  Senior Katie Bradford (Lebanon, NH) followed less than two minutes later with her first of the game and at 17:38 sophomore Joan Hamel (Weare, NH) scored to make it 3-0. 

With just under 10 minutes to play in the first half, junior Jane Walsh (Portsmouth, RI) sent a lob just under the cross bar to push the Owls lead to 4-0 at the break.

Berthiaume would add her second of the game in the 54th minute to extend the Owls lead to 5-0.  Freshman Marissa D'Angelo (Whitman, Mass.) would answer with the Rams only goal of the game to make it 5-1. 

The Rams had a chance to score again in the 84th minute, but Jess Latini's (East Bridgewater, Mass) shot sailed just over the cross bar on a direct kick from 25-yards out. 

Keene would add two goals in the final minute to reach the final score of 7-1.  Berthiaume finished the game with three goals, while Bradford added two and an assist. Hamel finished with a goal and a helper for the Owls.

The Owls took 27 shots in the game to the Rams 10.  Junior Megan Dempsey (East Weymouth, Mass.) saw the majority of the minutes in net for the Owls and made four saves.  Jillian Lohneiss (West Hartford, Conn.) made one save in her time in net and Lea Swanson (Wakefield, RI) did not make a save.  Framingham State goalkeeper Kaitlyn Rossi (Pepperell, Mass.) made 10 saves and picked up the loss.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Babson College at 4 p.m., while the Owls host Tufts on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.
