Women's Soccer Battles UMass Boston to Double Overtime Tie

Framingham, MA - The Framingham State College women's soccer team battled the UMass Boston Beacons to a 1-1 double overtime draw today on Maple Street Field on the Rams Senior Day.  It was the Rams final home game of the season and prior to the game the Rams six seniors were recognized.

The Rams (5-9-1) outshot the Beacons 26-9 on the day but were only able to score one goal as the Beacons keeper Ashley McRoberts (Merrimack, NH) was solid in net as she made 12 stops on the day.

After a scoreless opening half, the Beacons (6-10-2) broke into the scoring column in the 62nd minute as Kristi Morales (San Francisco, CA) scored off a direct kick.

The Rams tied the score in the 86th minute as senior midfielder Brianna McCarthy (Shirley, MA) sent a cross into the box that fellow senior Jillian Landry (Southwick, MA) knocked home for her 3rd goal of the season.

UMass Boston had the best chance to break the tie in the first overtime as Morales broke thru the Rams defense and sent a shot on net.  Framingham State goalie Kate Simonelli (Pittsfield, MA), who finished the day with three saves, came off her line and made a diving save to keep the game scoreless and force a second overtime.

The Rams had a chance to break the tie in the second overtime as sophomore defender Jill Johnson (Mansfield, MA) sent a long cross into the box to freshman forward Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, MA) whose shot sailed just wide.

The Rams return to action on Saturday as they travel to Fitchburg State at 10 a.m., while the Beacons host Plymouth State at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
