Women's Soccer Falls to Salem State

Framingham, MA - The Framingham State College women's soccer team lost a hard fought match today at Maple Street Field 2-0 to the visiting Vikings of Salem State College.  With the win, the Vikings improve to 10-1-1 on the season and 3-1 in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action, while the Rams fall to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the MASCAC.

After a scoreless first half that saw the Vikings out shoot the Rams 9-6, sophomore midfielder Erin O'Brien (Hanson, MA) scored the game winner in the 57th minute of play.  Senior defender Judy Orvis (Amherst, MA) assisted on the game winner as she sent a cross into the box that O'Brien found the back of the net with.

The Vikings would add an insurance goal in the 79th minute as sophomore Cathy Greenough (Abington, MA) scored off an assist from junior Amber Warnick (Wilmington, MA).

Freshman Leah Potcner (Wilmington, MA) picked up the shut out win while making seven saves.  Senior Kate Simonelli made 12 saves for the Rams in a losing effort.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Elms College at 6 p.m., while the Vikings travel to Newbury College at 3 p.m.
