Last Minute Goal Lifts Women's Soccer Over Johnson & Wales

Framingham, MA - Freshman midfielder Heather Gosnell (Sutton, MA) converted a penalty kick in the final minute of play to lift the Framingham State College women's soccer team to a 2-1 non-conference win over Johnson & Wales on Maple Street Field this afternoon.  With the win, the Rams move to 3-6 on the season, while the Wildcats fall back to .500 at 6-6.

The Rams controlled play early and took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute as freshman forward Laura Powers (Norwell, MA) netted her second goal of the season off an assist from senior midfielder Brianna McCarthy (Shirley, MA).

The Wildcats would come back to tie the game in the 35th minute as the Rams keeper Kate Simonelli, who finished the day with seven saves, came off her line and junior forward Angela Cazzato (Rensselear, NY) placed a shot in the bottom corner.  Freshman midfielder Caroline Brion (Amherst, NH) assisted on the game tying tally.

Both teams had their chances to score in the second half but Simonelli and Johnson & Wales goalkeeper Kory Blythe (Fall River, MA), who made a game-high 10 saves, turned away everything they faced until the last minute of play.  Framingham freshman forward Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, MA) took a thru ball and maneuvered into the box where she was level by a Wildcat defender.  A penalty kick was awarded to the Rams with just 38 seconds remaining and Gosnell converted to give the Rams the win.

The Rams return to action on Saturday as they host Salem State at 10 a.m., while the Wildcats host Mt. Ida on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
