Women's Soccer Picks Up First MASCAC Win of Season

Framingham, MA - The Framingham State College women's soccer team picked up their first Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) win of the season today with a 7-0 victory over the visiting Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime Academy.  With the win, the Rams improve to 2-5 on the season and 1-1 in the MASCAC, while the Buccaneers are 0-2 in MASCAC action and 1-5 overall.

Junior midfielder Katie Jeffery (Attleboro, MA) scored the game winner just 3:33 into the game as she took a thru ball from freshman forward Tanya Vital (Wilbraham, MA) and lofted a shot out of the reach of Buccaneer keeper Emily Welsh (Shelton, CT). 

Sophomore Melissa Price (Norwood, MA) and freshman Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, MA) would add goals in the 35th and 43rd minutes to put the Rams up 3-0 at the half.  Freshman Heather Gosnell (Sutton, MA) assisted on Kiley's tally.

In the second half a trio of Rams, Silvana Ortiz (Stoneham, MA), Taylor Benton (Elba, NY) and Jillian Landry (Southwick, MA), notched unassisted goals and Kiley added her second of the day to give the Rams a 7-0 lead.

Senior Kate Simonelli (Pittsfield, MA), who made one save on the day, picked up the shutout win in net for the Rams, while Welsh faced 37 shots in the game and made 23 saves for the Buccaneers.

The Rams return to action on Saturday as they travel to Worcester State at 11 a.m., while the Buccaneers travel to Westfield at 6 p.m.
