Women's Soccer Falls to Keene State, 5-2

Framingham, MA - The Keene State College women's soccer team remains unbeaten this season after they defeated the host Framingham State Rams 5-2 today at Maple Street Field.  With the win, the Owls improve to 5-0 on the season, while the Rams fall to 1-2. 

Keene State took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute of play as junior midfielder Molly Brunelle (Walpole, NH) sent a pass into the box that senior Michelle Boland (Worcester, MA) headed in for the game's first goal.  The Rams would tie the game at one late in the first half as sophomore Jill Johnson (Mansfield, MA) connected with freshman Tanya Vital (Wibraham, MA) in the 42nd for the Rams first goal and Vital's first collegiate goal.  The Owls would break the tie and take the lead for good just two minutes later as freshman midfielder Tara Nathan (Bethel, CT) launched a direct kick over the head of the Rams goalie, Kate Simonelli (Pittsfield, MA).

Keene State would extend their lead to 3-1 in the 52nd minute as sophomore Katie Bradford (Lebanon, NH) fed the ball thru the Rams defense to junior Kendra Spencer (Petoskey, MI) who found the back of the net.  The Rams would cut their deficit back to one at 3-2 just two minutes later as Johnson launched a direct kick from 25 yards out past the Owls goal keeper for her second goal of the season.  Keene would extend their lead to 5-2 in the 57th and 58th minutes on two goals from Bradford.

Keene State goalie Megan Dempsey (Weymouth, MA) picked up the win while making eight saves, while Simonelli made 13 stops for the Rams in the loss.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Babson at 4 p.m., while the Owls travel to Middlebury on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
