Women's Lacrosse Captures 2024 MASCAC Regular Season Title with 15-14 Overtime Victory over Westfield State

Westfield, Mass. - The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team captured the 2024 MASCAC Regular Season Title after tallying the game winner with 19 seconds remaining in overtime to defeat Westfield State 15-14 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this evening at Alumni Field.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The Rams capture their third MASCAC Regular Season Title and the first since 2021. The Rams will now be the top seed in next week's MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament. 

  • The Rams netminder Isabella DiMare opened the game with saves on the Owls first four shots of the game including a breakaway as the Rams built a 3-0 lead with just under eight minutes on the clock Leah Green struck first for the Rams with Rachel Erickson and Molly Lanier adding goals. 

  • The Owls got on the board on a goal from Mykenzie Black, but Erickson's second of the game put the Ram up 4-1 with just over five to play. The Owls closed the first quarter scoring three straight goals tying the game at 4-4 after one. 

  • In the second, the Owls took their first lead of the game on a goal from Kylie Buchman, but the Rams countered with goals from Erickson and Hannah Guerin to lead 6-5 midway through the period. After trading goals, the Rams closed the half with three straight including another from Erickson to lead 9-6 at the half. 

  • The Owls scored four straight goals to open the third period and retake the lead, 10-9. The Rams used an Erickson tally to tie the game, but the two teams traded goals to close the period with the Owls leading 12-11. 

  • A Buchanan goal gave the Owls a two goal lead to start the fourth, but the Rams used goals from Lanier and Guerin tying the game 13-13 with 11:33 to play.  

  • Black tallied the Owls final goal of the fourth at 8:08 when the Owls were a man up, but the Rams answered with a man up goal and tied the game on a Guerin tally with 5:04 to play. 

  • The Owls had a chance at the game winner in the closing seconds of regulation, but DiMare came up with the save and the game went to overtime tied, 14-14. 

  • The Owls had an open shot and a free position shot to start overtime, but the attempts went wide. 

  • The Rams tallied the game-winner on the ensuing possession with Guerin finding Lanier who buried the shot in the back of the net. 

  • DiMare earned the victory in net for the Rams and made 16 saves. 

  • Erickson finished the game with five goals and an assist, while Lanier tallied four goals including the game winner. 

  • Guerin finished the night with three goals and three assists, while Julianna Guzi and Regan Fein each tallied a goal and picked up an assist.

The Rams are back in action on Thursday when they will host one semifinal of the 2024 MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament.
