Women’s Lacrosse Soars Past Westfield State 13-9 in MASCAC Opener

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 5-0 lead and held off a second half surge by the Westfield State Owls to secure a 13-9 victory in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action this afternoon at Maple Street Field.

THE BASICS:

- Records: Framingham State (3-0, 1-0 MASCAC), Westfield State (0-1, 0-1 MASCAC)

Location:  Maple Street Field – Framingham, Mass.  

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Rams jumped out to a 5-0 lead just over seven minutes into the game. The Rams received a pair of goals apiece from Guerin and Marino on the stretch.
  • The Owls got on the board with 21 minutes remaining in the half on a goal from junior Kelly Gearin.
  • The Rams tacked on two straight to increase the lead to 7-1 before the Owls tallied the final three of the frame to head to the half trailing 7-4.
  • The Owls opened the second half with back to back goals from Natalie DeMaio cutting the Rams lead to 7-6 with 27 minutes on the clock, but that was as close as they would get for the remainder of the game.
  • The Rams answered with tallies from Hanna McMahon and Jenna McMahon pushing the lead back to three, 9-6, with just over 15 minutes remaining.
  • Westfield cut the lead back to two on two occasions, the last on goal from Sam Donohoe with 6:38 left, but the Rams netted the final two goals of the game to hold on for the win.
  • Westfield was led by three goals each from Cassidy Harvey and DeMaio. Kara Banagan made 12 saves in goal. 
  • Framingham was led with four goals apiece from McMahon and Hannah Guerin.  Goalie Hannah Allen made 10 saves.

The Rams are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Bridgewater State at 7:30 p.m., while the Owls host Fitchburg State on Thursday at 7 p.m.
