Women's Lacrosse Opens 2021 with 19-9 Victory over Johnson & Wales

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State University women's lacrosse team returned to action this evening after playing just four games in the COVID shortened 2020 season and received six goals from senior Alissa Marino (Trumbull, Conn.) as the Rams defeated Johnson & Wales 19-9 in non-conference action at Maple Street Field.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Marino paced all scored with her six tallies to go along with three assists. Senior Jenna McMahon (Watertown, Mass.) tallied four goals, while classmate Hanna McMahon (Watertown, Mass.) added three goals and two helpers.
  • Freshman Rachel Erickson (Dunstable, Mass.) chipped in with two goals and an assist in her first collegiate action, while junior Tara Palermo (Mashpee, Mass.) in her first game back in the black and gold added two goals.
  • The Wildcats were led offensively by three goals from senior Dani Lydecker, while classmate Marley Medina (South Hadley, Mass.) chipped in a pair of goals.
  • Sophomore Alexis Burleigh (Vernon, Conn.) earned the victory in net for the Rams making three saves, while senior Mikayla Seavey (Bridgewater, Mass.) made two saves in relief.
  • Emma Crowley took the loss for the Wildcats making three saves.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Rams opened up a 4-1 lead just over 10 minutes into the game after three goals from Marino.  The lead extended two four goals on a pair of occasions including on a Palermo tally with just over 12 minutes remaining in the frame.
  • Johnson & Wales rattled off two straight to cut the gap to two, 8-6, on a Lydecker marker, but Jenna McMahon found the back of the net with three ticks left on the clock giving the Rams a 9-6 advantage at the break.
  • The Rams caught fire to start the second half, scoring five straight including two from each McMahon twin as the Rams opened up a 14-6 lead.
  • Johnson & Wales got on the board in the second half on a free position shot from Kayla Datys, but the Rams used another 5-0 spurt to put the game away.

The Rams are back in action Friday night when they host Keene State at 4 p.m., while Johnson & Wales hosts Anna Maria on Saturday at 11 a.m.
