Women’s Lacrosse Closes Season with 24-6 Loss to Conference Leader Bridgewater State

Framingham, Mass. – Seniors Jenny Jones (Framingham, Mass.), Courtney Lennon (Medfield, Mass.) and Patricia Maloney (Walpole, Mass.) scored five goals apiece to lead the Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a 24-6 win over the Framingham State Rams in New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) action this afternoon at Maple Street Field.        

With the win, the Bears improve to 15-1 and 7-0 in the NEWLA.  The Bears will be the top seed in this week's NEWLA Tournament and will host fourth seed Westfield State on Wednesday.  The Rams end the 2011 season 4-10 overall and 3-4 in the NEWLA.

The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead less than two minutes into the game and extended the lead to 6-0 midway through the first half.  Sophomore Louie Rijo (Salem, Mass.) scored for the Rams with just under 13 minutes remaining to cut the deficit to 6-1, but the Bears would add six more goals before the half to take a 12-1 lead and put the game out of reach.

The Rams closed the gap in the second half scoring four goals in the first 11 minutes of the including three more from Rijo and a single goal by junior Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, Mass.).  The Bears would answer with a 7-0 run to regain momentum and seal the win.

Jones and Lennon each finished with three assists to go along with their five goals, while junior Kristin White chipped in three goals and a game-high five assists.

Rijo led the Rams with four goals and an assist, while Kiley and senior Stephanie Corrales each chipped in a single goal.

Senior Katie Weber (Arlington, Mass.) picked up the win for the Bears making six saves, while sophomore Kelsey Turner (Billerica, Mass.) made 12 saves in a losing effort.
