Women’s Basketball Powers Their Way to an 80-71 Win Over Emerson

Framingham, Mass. – The Framingham State women's basketball team moved to 7-0 on the season after defeating Emerson College on Saturday afternoon in Framingham.  

THE BASICS: 

- Score:  Framingham State 80, Emerson College 71 

- Records:  Framingham State (6-0), Emerson College (3-3) 

- Location:  Logan Gym Framingham, Mass. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The Rams came out of the gate strong scoring the first eight points of the game and taking a 23-13 lead on a Kelsey Yelle jumper late in the quarter.  

  • The Lions battled back in the second briefly taking a 35-34 lead with under a minute to play in the half, but Flannery O'Connor scored the next three points including a buzzer beating putback to send the Rams into the break leading 37-35.  

  • After battling for the first part of the second half the Rams were able to stretch their lead to ten a little over midway through the 3rd on a Yelle lay-in and push to as much as 14 early in the 4th on another Yelle finish.  

  • The Lions fought to get it within six with just under two minutes to play but Flannery O'Connor connected on the other end for the Rams. The Rams got a stop and Yelle added to her big game on the other end to put the game away.  

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Kelsey Yelle led the Rams, delivering a season-high 26 points and a double-double by grabbing 12 rebounds.  

  • Katherine Haselton also scored a season-best 20 points going 8-of-16 from the field picking up six boards, two steals and two assists. 

  • Chloe Rayko and Flannery O'Connor both contributed 10 points each as O'Connor earned a double-double adding 15 rebounds and four assists.  

  • Bri Frongillo led the Lions in scoring with 17 points, connecting on 5 field goals, including 3 three-pointers, and going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Ella Bushee and Kendra Dodd also made significant contributions with 15 and 17 points, respectively. 

  • The difference in the game was the Rams aggresivness on the offensive boards creating 13 points on second chance opportunities.
