Boston, Mass.. – Framingham State senior guard Raegan Mulherin (Baldwinville, Mass.) scored a season-high 28 points as the Rams fell at UMass Boston 76-63 in non-conference action Tuesday evening at Clark Arena. With the win the Beacons improve to 6-1 while the Rams slide to 3-3.
UMB was led by Joie Grassi with a double-double with 25 points and 15 rebounds shooting 5-of-11 from long range. Megan Dixon added 19 points and alani Jackson pitched in 8 off the bench.
Mulherin scored 28 which sophomore Mary Kate O'Day (Berlin, Mass.) added 19 points and classmate Mallory DeFeo (Arlington, Mass) added 7 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
The back-and-forth contest featured 10 lead changes and 3 ties. Early in the 4th quarter Mulherin's jumper cut the Beacons lead to two at 56-54 but the Beacons pulled away. The Beacons rolled off a 19-5 run over an eight-minute stretch to extend their lead to 75-59 with just under two minutes to play to seal the win.
The Beacons shot 26-of-58 (44.8%) from the field to the Rams 21-of-65 (32.3%). UMB also held the advantage from beyond the arc at 13-for-32 (40.6%) compared the Rams who were 7-for-23 (30.4% from downtown.
The Rams return to action on Thursday, December 7 when they host Anna Maria at 6pm.
